Sildenafil citrate is popular among men all over the world

The best drug to treat erectile dysfunction sure is a tough one, but hands down, the best drug and more popularly used is actually Sildenafil Citrate or better known as Viagra. It was first marketed in the late 90s under the name by Pfizer and since it was advertised as for erectile dysfunction primarily, it would be a surprise to actually know a little tidbit of info that sildenafil citrate was actually first being tried for hypertension. But its effect on erections in the male test subject did prove useful as the researchers decided to improve on its erection-stimulating properties and finally came up with a potent drug which Pfizer aptly named Viagra and came out in the market. Since that point on, Viagra has reached worldwide fame and in fact it is so popular the name was now synonymous to erectile dysfunction and impotency. What exactly are its mechanisms? It is quite simple as it inhibits a certain enzyme that controls the blood flow in the penis and since erection is attained by this blood flow system, the more blood pumped in the penis, the harder it gets and that is exactly what sildenafil does, it increases the blood flow and as long as the drug is in effect, you are able to maintain that erection. Now it does not matter if what you take is generic sildenafil citrate or the brand Viagra, this just has both the same effects, and actually, the same side effects too which presents in very minimal cases like headaches, nausea, vomiting, stomach upsets, loss of vision (debated as it is not yet determined if this was directly caused by Viagra, and of course, prolonged erection more than 4 hours as this is the maximum time of effectivity of the drug and it might lead to permanent tissue damage if not treated immediately. These side effects are actually minimal and in a statistics sense, it occurs in less than 10% of the patients but if it does appear, it would be advisable to stop the use of Viagra first and have yourself checked up by your physician. But statistics and numbers wise, this is a relatively safe drug and a real potent one for erectile dysfunction that it has not gained this popularity for nothing at all, and many men around the US, and all over the world can attest to this fact.
